Announcement - Donating to Feeding America!
50% of profit made by the store will be donated to Feeding America!
S.M. Campbell have agreed that for the duration of November, we will donate 50% of our profits from the store to Feeding America.
So if you’re going itching to get a new audiobook AND you want to help give back to the community, please consider purchasing from our small business. I am hoping to at least reach $50 by the end of the month (currently at ~$6).
I made a small quiz for you to learn more about the Eldritch Depths world. Find out which of the main POVs you are most like! Take the quiz!
What’s the Hel is She Up To Now?
Zack and I have finished prepping this book and will begin recording this book! Be on the lookout for us on TikTok and/or Instagram if you want to see us narrating live.
I also just read the 2nd book the the series “Flame in the Silver Storm” and IT WAS SO GOOD!! I’m such a fan of Rocio’s work.
Did you also know that we do some engineering too? This is our first venture into providing engineering services. The wonderful Andrea Jenelle asked us to take on the engineering for this book and others of her future audiobooks.
I had the pleasure of reading this one last year and it is equal parts sweet and spicy! Definitely check it out.
The Tech Nook
I am hereby calling this “The Tech Nook” because I come from the technical space and would like to share some interesting technical knowledge to anyone who cares to read. I studied Human-Computer Interaction and am deeply passionate about the ways we, as humans, shape technology and vice versa. In general, my goal with the segment is for you to learn how to protect yourself by arming you with information.
So Hel, with all the buzz around AI in the creative space, what’s your stance?
I personally do not support the use of Generative AI in creative spaces.
I will and have refused to do work if the book is written with Gen AI.
I will never condone the use of my voice or any VA’s voice for teaching Gen AI, nor will I ever use it for my own purposes.
Additionally, any Gen AI use is taken into account whenever I consider accepting projects.
There are grey areas to this but before I get into them (in a future newsletter) it’s worth highlighting that there are 2 types of AI:
Assistive AI
Generative AI
Assistive AI has existed for a lot longer than the buzz around AI has. It learns off existing data and makes analysis and potentially suggestions. A great example of this is what Grammarly used to just be. Old Grammarly would highlight and provide feedback (e.g. “use active voice vs. passive voice”) on your spelling and grammar.
Generative AI is a bit newer. Gen AI is what most if not all of the controversies are about. Generative AI takes information from the internet and creates/generates something new based on the patterns learned from the data provided. Why this is an issue is because we know that most of the data that’s teaching these Gen AI tools are not ethically acquired (i.e. pirated books or art or on the internet without the artist’s consent). Gen AI CAN be ethically sourced and it does exists. It all comes down to consent.
Unfortunately, in the creative space, almost nothing that we see being created by Gen AI is from ethically sourced data. Going back to Grammarly, they do leverage Gen AI now because they have features to re-write segments or to just write the entire message for you.

Example of Grammarly’s Gen AI capabilities
What does this mean for you?
I acknowledge that people have differing opinions on the use of Gen AI in the creative space. My hope with The Tech Nook is for you to be better informed about technologies that we consume and interact with and for you to use your own critical thinking skills to make your own conclusions on how to navigate these spaces and at the very least, learn how to protect yourselves.
